About

Hi, I’m Corinne!

Modern Moon Acupuncture represents the love I hold for classical Daoist philosophy and its deep traditional roots of Chinese medical wisdom, but with a little zhuzh; elevating it to fit effortlessly within the modern world we live in today.

The moon is such a mystical, empowering totem. It holds the gravitational space to push upon the Earth and effect the tides. Its energetic power has the ability to affect our hormones, emotions and mental states. Women’s menstrual cycles also sync to the shifting phases of the moon each month. Within this heart space is where Modern Moon Acupuncture was created. Working with women’s health, fertility, hormone balancing, and mental/emotional wellness are some of my deepest passions.

About Dr. Corinne Brown, OMP:

I am a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine in the state of Pennsylvania. I studied at the Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, North Carolina, and hold both a Masters and Doctorate degree in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Here, I spent over 4,000 clinical hours refining my skills in diagnosis, treatment strategy, needling, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, and herbal medicine.

My favorite aspect about Daoist Traditions is how the curriculum is structured. They highlight the teachings of Chinese medicine from a classical approach – one of very few in the country to do so. It puts an emphasis on cultivation of the practitioner, and accentuates the spirit behind each of the points. Learning in this way became a guiding force within my own practice.

The school created its curriculum from the teachings of an 88th generation Daoist priest, Master Jeffrey Yuen. I’m very grateful for my time spent learning from Master Yuen, as well as all of the other brilliant professors I feel honored to have studied from within this field. Studying under Dr. Randine Lewis especially was an extremely pivotal and inspiring experience for me. Dr. Lewis was directly transformational in developing my passion for women’s health and fertility treatment.

Prior to Asheville, I lived in Richmond, Virginia for my undergraduate education at Virginia Commonwealth University and was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I was introduced to Chinese medicine from my mom, and witnessed a full transformation of her health via acupuncture and herbal medicine. Being able to see this shift was incredibly inspiring.

I decided to try acupuncture for the first time at nineteen years old. An undergraduate student at the time, I struggled with a lot of anxiety, depression and occasionally some manic episodes. I honestly wasn’t sure what could bring me out of it enough to focus and finish my degree. My mom suggested that I try acupuncture, and having seen how much it helped her, I decided to try it myself. This sparked a lifelong love of this beautiful, expansive medicine – and I got to experience first-hand exactly how transformational it can be. Over the course of a year, not only did I have a new zest for life, but I was on my way to finishing my education, and restructured the course of my career to become an acupuncturist. I discovered my calling was to help other people working through their own pain and disharmonies. Treating mental health has become profoundly important to my heart.

I look at the body using a PEMS (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) perspective. I have found that the body will become emotionally fatigued after years of physical pain, and vice versa with physical pain being created by years of emotional or mental struggling. In time, this cycle will have an impact on the spirit. My goal as a healthcare provider is to view your concern from each of these levels to assure that I am working on both the branch and root cause of any pain or disease pattern.
